RUD test their chains on specific wheel and car combinations, in extreme conditions. It's easy to find a chain that will fit round your wheel, but what happens when the car is on full lock on a bumpy road? There may be many vulnerable components, including suspension struts, brake pipes and wheel arches, as well as electronic sensing equipment. RUD will want to supply chains if it's sensible to do so, so if there is a 'No fit' designation there is a good reason.

RUD should be presumed to k ow what they're talking about - apart from everything else they're official suppliers to Audi, BMW, Jaguar, Landrover, Mercedes, Saab, Volvo, and VW, amongst others.

We recommend Spikes Spiders as the most appropriate alternative for ski drivers. These are relatively expensive, but they work very well, and they can be adjusted for size both up and down, with all parts replaceable as spares - so you could argue that they're overall "Best value". There may also be a suitable set of AutoSock; these are reasonably priced and work amazingly well, but they are not approved for Alpine "Snow chains must be carried" use, because they are textile and the EU legislation (drafted before AutoSock was invented) requires "metal" between the tyre and the road. European ski drivers must therefore carry snow chains (including Spikes Spiders).
