VAN-RACKS SECURITY
Worried about on-line shopping?
In the near future, VAN-RACKS will start accepting
debit and credit card payments on-line. We appreciate that many people are
still uncertain about carrying out transactions over the Internet and we hope
our thoughts, below, will go some way to reassuring them. Of course, for those
who remain unsure, we will continue to accept payment by telephone.
For those who intend to do their shopping on-line, we have also added a couple of notes down at the bottom of the page stating just how we will handle your information and what will happen in the very unlikely event of your card being used fraudulently on this site.
When e-commerce started to take off in the UK a few years ago there was a considerable amount of media speculation about the dangers of leaving personal and payment card details on line. Internet crime does exist, of course, and statistics suggest that the most common form of Internet crime involves fraudulent on line auctions, where goods are paid for by cheque or postal order, and never arrive.
It's fair to say that the relative risks involved in using your payment card on-line, on a secure server, with a reputable company, are small compared to more traditional methods of shopping. Fraudsters find it surprisingly easy to obtain card details, perhaps by finding carelessly discarded payment receipts, or by taking an illicit copy of a card in a shop or restaurant.
The reality of course is that we should all continue to use our common sense in the way we look after our cards and the paper receipts, but we also need to exercise a degree of trust to enable the normal pattern of working and social life to continue.
Are my personal and payment card details safe?
All the information we collect from you on our web site will be placed on our secure web server, protected by the highest levels of data encryption as well as by firewall technology to prevent unauthorised access.
What happens if something does go wrong?
If your card is used fraudulently on our web site we will
refund the first £50 of any loss. Your credit card company is legally responsible
for refunding the rest.
